Callaghans Bowlswear was established in the early 1990’s.
Proprietor Steve Jones is a very keen bowler and took the
opportunity to buy the business from his friend, also a keen
bowls player, in 2002.
Steve has played bowls since the age of eight.
He says “As a child I spent time with my grandparents
who were both keen bowlers with New Herrington bowling club
in County Durham. At eleven I joined Barnes Park bowling club
in Sunderland. I later joined the Navy for nine years –
and lost a bit of practice as you can imagine!
When I came out, I joined a local bowling club and played
for Sunderland indoor and Durham county indoor and outdoor
and still really enjoy the sport. I have made many good friends
up and down the country through bowling – and thankfully
converted many of them to customers!”
 Steve
is a Durham county outdoor Middleton cup skip.
His team were All England national fours runners up in 2006
and Liberty Trophy national championship winners in 2002.
They have been Durham county indoor fours champions in 2001,
2, 5 and 6.
Bowling Representation
Callaghans Bowlswear is represented in many regions of the
country by county players. We find it beneficial to be represented
by experienced players as they are able to give first hand
knowledge, opinion and advice about the clothing, bowls, equipment
and accessories.
Steve himself covers, Newcastle, Sunderland, South and North
Shields, Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
Dave Kilner looks represents us in Hartlepool and Durham whilst
Dave Gregory covers Cumbria and the North West.
Steve also develops our presence in the rest of the country
and we are especially well represented in Kent, Cornwall and
Devon.

As keen bowls players, we see and have the opportunity to
try out most of the bowls related products on the market.
A number of bowlswear suppliers have developed their own range
of bowls clothing, based on lower cost foreign imports. In
